The active Ayr pit is located on part of lots 31 and 32 within concession 9 of the township of North Dumfries, in the region of Waterloo, ON. 2018 Lidar imagery was used to create 1-metre contours of the site and provide a current base plan to inform our site visit, existing conditions, inventory + analysis, and final design proposal. Goals:

 

[1] Protect, enhance, and expand natural heritage features

 

[2] Highlight connections between extracted resources and use in the built environment

 

[3] Responsible use and reuse of existing site resources in the design to minimize environmental impact, highlight continuity and enhance sense of place post extraction

 

[4] Provide immersive and transparent experiences for the general public to engage with and learn from the past and present landscape.
