The Kapyong site is described as abandoned in terms of its use when observed through the lens of its past. The site is out of context and is in dire need for reconnection to its surrounding context just as the "stewards" of the land are in search for their connection to their culture. The following design principles can be implemented on the site to ensure its successful development:

  • Zero Energy: the use of renewable sources generated on site

  • Energy Efficiency: The orientation of buildings on site to take advantage of solar gain

  • Water efficiency

  • Low impact materials

  • Waste recycling

  • Active transport and eco-friendly transport

Land | Terre Design Research Network is a collective aimed at increasing awareness and research in landscape architecture across Canada. Academic researchers from seven institutions are joining forces to reduce the country’s geographic span by tackling research questions that impact us regionally, and nationally.
